THE AMENDMENTS.
(SPECIAL TO "THE PBESS.") WELLINGTON, December 2. The amendments in the Land Bill, as brought before the House to-day by the Chairman of the Lands Committee, are not of momentous importance. Sub-section 3 of Section 26 has been amended by altering the term of imprisonment for acquiring land in excess of the provisions of the Bill. The fine " of £1000 in the case of a corporate body, and £500 in other cases, remains, but the term of two years' imprisonment provided in the Bill has been altered to five years. In Section 41 regarding pastoral lands, a new sub-section has been added as follows < —"The Board may, in the case of any small grazing run or pastoral run require the lessee or licensee to divide by means of a sufficient fence, the grazing area of the run into three approximately even parts, and to so work his run that in each year stock shall not be allowed to depasture in one of such parts in rotation between the Ist September and the last day of February in the following year." These are the only amendments.
