HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE.
(TRESS association tei.eokam.) WELLINGTON, October 4. Tho High Commissioner's cable from London, dated October 2nd, is as follows : — The mutton market is dull, and trade for all classes very slow. Prices are barely maintained. Canterbury is quoted at 3|d, North Island 3Jd. There is no alteration in the lamb market since last week. Canterbury 3|d, North Island 3£d. The beef market is weak, and there is no change in prices. New Zealand hinds 3Jd, fores 2§d. The butter market is quiet but' firm. Best quality New Zealand 118s, Danish 1245, Australian 114s, Siberian 10-8. Tho cheese market is lifeless. New Zealand 575, Canadian 565. The hemp market is firmer. New Zealand good fair grade on the spot, £27 10s; fair grado on the spot, £26 10s; fair current Manila on the spot, £27. October-December shipments, New Zealand good fair grade, £27; fair grade, £26; fair current Manila, £26. The Manila output amounts to 30,000 bales. The National Mortgage and Agency Company have received the following cable from their London office, dated 2nd October,. 1909:—"September wool sales are closed. Merinos generally closed at an advance of 2_ per cent, on opening rates. Crbssbreds generally closed at an advance of 5 per cent, on opening rates."
