EGG-LAYING COMPETITIONS.
The following are the returns of the duck egg-laying competition held at the "New Zealand Poultry Journal" Institute, CJhristchurch. Owing to the exceptionally mild winter, the ducks have passed through a prolonged moult, during which time the egg returns have been small. It is expected the birds will be in full lay during July. The returns to June 25th are as follow: — W. Knight 94; A. Penberthy 54, W. Smith (No. 2 pen) 35, G. Mills 27, W. Smith (No. 1 pen) 26, T. Dowthwaite 20, T. Smitbers 12, Brake and Duke 11, J. Wiggs 10, F. Ritchie 9, F. Pannett 9, G. Biirlev 6, J. Strong) 5, J. Hadley 3, H. Wright 2; total 823. AU the ducks aro Indian Runners.
