CASUALTIES.

FATAL ACCIDENT.

i Ail accident, which was attended with fatal results, occurred yesterday at Mr G.; W*; J* 'Parso___'s monumental works. Mr Alexander Black, who was engaged at the works as mechanic, wSs caught beneath the machinery, and so severely injured that- he succumbed shortly afterwards. Tho left arm was completely s6vercd t 'and th© unfortunate man also, sustained severe injuries to his head and body. -He was taken to the hospital with all promptitude, hilt he succumbed shortly after admission, without regaining consciousness. An inquest will be held to-day.

Mrs W. Giddcns, 72 years of age, died suddenly *t Duvauchelles on Saturday last. An inquest was decided on, as th© deceased had hot previously received medical attendance.

Atan'inquest'oh.a.l6 hours old child of Mr and Mrs Jas. IXmaghy, hold before Mr H. W. Bishop, District Coroner, yesterday, a verdict of death from asthenia was returned.

• (gricxu, to "suns pb-kss.") METHVEN, Juno 28. A labourer named Charles Johnstone, died suddenly at about 3.30 this morning in a whare on Mr James McCrenor's pro.pe.rty hear . Methven. Two other men were in the whare along with Johnstone, and* they heard him moaning* On getting up and going to his assistance they found he was just able to. speak, and shortly afterwards he died.

Bartholomew Dehnehy, the road contractor who was iriiured by falling down th? face of a cuttiu* at Mangapoike on Thursday last, died at a priyate hospital. TAURANGA, June 27. Andrew Haua, a Tvell-known ex-foot-baller, was drowned about two o'clock on Sunday morning in the Uretawa river, Katikati. He had gone from Tauranga to referee in a football match, and was waiting on the wharf for the tide to return home. When going aboard the boat, he tripped on a rope and fell off the wharf, and struck his head on the launch. Ho rose to the surface and called oiit, "Save mc," arid then disappeared. Two companions plunged in, but were unable to save him. The body was recoTered soon after daylight. Ban a represented the Auckland Bugby Union in 1894-5, and was well known and .popular in all branches of athletics. Hβ leaves a widow and three children.
