FIRE INSURANCE IN LONDON.
The fire insurance companies transacting business in the Administrative County of London have to contribute towards the expense of maintaining tho Metropolitan Firo Brigade at tho rate of £35 per million sterling of insurance. Tho contributions for 1909 are based on tho_amounts insured on December 31st, 190". The total amount of insurance is £1,055,200,172, and the total amount of t'he contribution is £36,931 13s lid. Tho largest individual amounts are as follow:— Alliance, £180,060,702; Sun, £113,916,970; Commercial Union, £80,508,631; Royal, £71,680,457; Phoenix, £68,646,15 i ; Law, £67,859,122; North British and Mercantile, £43,783,703; Liverpool and London and Globe, £40,813,000; Royal Exchange, £38,088,415; Norwich Union, £36,063,972; London and Lancashire, £35,656,137; Union, £32,871,955; Atlas, £32,571,697; Guardian, £28,948,513; Law Union and Crown, £24,863,034.
