DUCK EGG-LAYING
The following are tho returns for April for the duck egg-laying # competition held at the Poultiy Institute. St. Albans. All the pens are stiil in a heavy moult, with the exception of Mr P Jack's pen, which is taking a lead of the others. It is natural for ducks when removed from their usual quarters and placed on a different ration to go into moult, from which it takes them a month or six weeks to recover. After this is over they begin laying with remarkable ro<rul;:rity. Thirteen pens have not vet begun to lav. The total laid is 150 eegs—P. Jack 50. W. Knight 21. G. W. Mills 19, W. S. Smith 19, W. Smith (No. 2 pen) 16. E. Buriev 6. F. Ritchie 5. J. Dcwthwaite 5. T. Smithers 3, J. Hadlev 3, Brake and Duke 3.
