CUST AND WEST EYRETON BRANCH.
The annual meeting of the Cust and West Eyreton branch of the New Zea» land Farmers' Uuion was held on April i'-ith, Mr M. J. Dixon presiding. Mr F. Horrell was elected president and delegate for the ensuing year. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr F. Horrell, that this branch approves of the small-sized comsacks, and requests tho delegate to support their adoption. The following remits were passed, to be forwarded to the Conference: — "(1.) That the Railway Department and the shipping companies be asked to take effective steps to have tho freight adjusted to suit tho smaller sacks. (2.) To support the action of the Conference of Chambers of Commerce in Wellington with reference to the 1 reduction of the mortgage tax, with the object of encouraging closer settlement, and bringing money into the country. (3.) To prevent the rating area of the Christchurch canal schema being extended to tho country tricts." A hearty vote of thanks was ! accorded Mr M. J. Dixon for his efforts in making the outing to-Lincoln College a thorough success. A vote of thanks to tho retiring president and secretary terminated the meeting. j
