MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Mr T. A. "B. Bailey, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Alexander Scrimgeour was fined 5s and costs for drunkenness, 10s and costs for procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, and os and costs for refusing to pay his tram fare. Henry Gad man was remanded till this morning on a charge of wifedesertion Mary Blue was charged wiih stealing from Wm. Holdsworth a gold watch, chain and sovereign case, valued at £10. The accused elected to be tried by a jury, and after hearing the evidence tho Magistrate committed her for trial. Alfred Seeker (Mr Johnston) pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecency. After hearing tho evidence the Magistrate dismissed T<he case. Patrick Hanlin, Ernest Leshke, and Thomas O'MaUey were charged with • behaving in a disorderly manner and creating a breach of the peace. Leshke did not appear, and the other two pleaded guilty. Tlie evidence showed that on March :«)th Arthur Fain, while coming out of the Wharf Hotel. Woolston, was asAoulted by three men. He could not say who "actually assaulted him, but tlie three accused wero there. Hanlin was not as great an offender as the other two. The Magistrate convicted and discharged Hanlin, and fined the other two 10s each and costs.
