Dr. Thos. Hcdgkin will deliver a popular lecture on "Rome and its buildings, Papal," illustrated by lantern views, at the Canterbury College Hall on Monday next, at 8 p.m. Thero. will be no charge for admission.
Tho meeting in connection with Herrick's Home, et which the question of future operations in view of the intended resignation of IVlrs Herrick, will be discussed, takes place to-night at tho rooms of the Scottish Society at 8 o'clock. Aβ the business to be considered is important, a large attendance of subscribers is desired.
The opening meeting for the season of 1909 in connection with the Philosophical Institute will take place in tho Biological Lecture Room, Canterbury College, on Wednesday 'evening. Mr E. G. Hogg, the retiring president, will deliver his ex-presidential address, the subject being "Recent Advances in Astronomy." It wiU be illustrated with lantern views.
The annual presentation of certificates, etc., and demonstration of ambulance work by members of the St. John Ambulanoe Association, will take place at the~Cboral Hall to-night at S o'clock. The presentations will be made by the Hon*. l>. Buddo, Minister for Internal Affairs.
A meeting will be held to-night in the (hl'dfellows' Hall, Rolleston street, 1/inwojKl!, for the purpose of forming a library in the district. An offer has been received from the City Council for the lease of the oid' Borough Council Chambers, corner of Worcester street and Stanmore road. The chair -will b* taken by Mr W. W. Tanner, and amongst the speakers will be Mr G. W. Russell, M.P., and menibers of the Linwood Citizens' Association.
