COUNTY COUNCILS.
SELWYN. Tho Selwyn County Council met yesterday morning. Present —Messrs W. Dunlop (chairman), Geo. Scott, J. Storry, J. Wolfe, K. Wilson, T. D. Boag* G. Bedford, G. Witty, M.P., and 11. Heaton Rhodes, M.P. The Water Raco Committee in the course of its report stated that the ensiueer recommended that no further work be done to tho Waimakariri Gorge race until somo definite scheme is decided upon. The report was agreed to. The Chairman (Mr W. Dunlop) iras appointed a trustee in connection with the Domain Board, in place of Mr H. H. Pitman, resigned. The amount for hospital purposes allocated to tho Council for the year 1910 was £4479 18s Bd, and for charitable aid £1823 18s Scl. It was decided to striko a hospital and charitable aid rate of i-25ths of Id in the pound to raise tLe necessary amount. It was decided to striko a rat* of l-32nd of Id in tho pound to provide funds for tho destruction , of small birds. The prices to bo paid for and heads will be fixed at tho Council's uext meeting. The Drainage Board wrote, agreeing with the Council's suggestion that the Board should pay one-third of the cost of cleaning the river Styx. After discussion, it was agreed to write to the Board stating that the arrangement would bo for the- present year only, as large alterations to the drainage of the district have taken place; at the end of the present year the apportionments of the cost would be subject to readjustment. It was decided to take back from the Avon Road Board tho control of the Kaputone creek. Mr T. W. Adams is to be asked to inspect and report on * Che Council's plantations. It was decided to contribute £4 towards tho guaranteo for a telephone to the Meade Settlement , xi. t« contribute £25 to the Christchurch Technical College ani a like amount to country technical classes. The engineer reported on the work* undex his charge, and his renort was agreed to. . " Accounts amounting to £1070 Us 10d were passed for payment.
