SOUTH CANTERBURY.
The first heavy rain since January 29th commenced to fall at Timaru yesterelay morning. The rain was badly needed throughout tho district, and this fall will save tho turnip crops, which wero beginning to suffer from the prolonged drought. Tho burnt-up pictures will now bo revived.
