THE PRICE OF BREAD.

TO THE EDITOK OF "THE PRESS." Sir,—Tiie twenty-seven bakers who, at their meeting on Monday, decided upon raising the price of bread, as from April Ist next, to 3id for small loaf, were very careful, to point out the advantages to be derived from their coupon system, but failed to acquaint the public what weight they intend to make the small loaf. Latterly, my small loaf has varied in weight, one day weighing 30 and_ the next 30J ounces. Of course, if it gets much smaller than this, and flour still at £10 10s,, less diecouijt, the poor bakers will hardly have a margin of profit left; and in my case, my wages being 7s per day, all these items of household expenditure have to be considered, being the father of «-*«*».<•&.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PBEBB." Sir,—On April let—rather suggestive are threatened with another rise in tho price of bread, simultaneously with the introduction of the " pay-in-edvanoe gygbeni. As wo have been at the mercy of Fliwr Trust and local T>akere for a long period, I think it is about time the consumers had a little- to say to this "stanti and deliver" policy. What I intend to do on receiving notice of the increase in price and the coming into operation of "pay T in-advance" is t:> tell my baker that 1 intend to place my custom elsewhere, and if all reguiaT paying customers took the same action the effect would be to disorganise every baker's business. A rather drastic method, no doubt, but one that \\<h.l« compel bakers to give their regular paying customers some consideration.— Yours, etc.,
