The British Government has authorised Sir John Jordan, British Minister at Pekin, to make representations to China in regard to the non-obser-vanc© of the Shanghai-Ningpo railway contract. China is taking active steps to meet British wishes, and prevent tlie obstruction of tho British section of the Ticntsin-Yangtezo railway construction works.
