SUNNYSIDE GARDENS.

Most of tho public institntiona' of the Dominion are noted for, their gardens-; some, however, more, so than others. The gardens associated with tho above-mentioned institution have moro than a local reputation. At present they are just coming into their ■ best summer form, and will for month-'., to como well reward those who pay the place a visit. The collection of shrubs, which is one of tho most com- *" prohensive, is very interesting and in- ' structive to those who purpose- planting. Those shrubs have now! attained large proportions, and make- strong displays in their flowering seasons. Thoibedding-out plants, which include many thousands, promiso to be moro than usually bright this season. At present yellow calceolarias- and coreopsis give strong effects to the flower borders. 1 By -theiway, we have been much struck this, season with tha" splendid results obtained by the-dis-plays of yellow flowers, which seem to be unusually abundant in almost every (garden of any sizo in and around the-* city. Yellow flowers aro without' doubt the most effective for • garden work, and next we should place scar- , let for brilliancy or attractiveness. ' We refer our readers to their memory " ot the beds, of scarlet geraniums and tho bed of yellow gazania in front of - tho Exhibition in support of our con- - tentions. Tho gardening done, at Sunnyside hns proved to be most .beneficial to tho establishment, and) jv . continuance of the .work under the able, management of Mr H. Brown, the gardener, is heartily recommended.
