WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
The monthly meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union waa held yesterday, Mrs Oole presiding. Th© following additional superintendents of departments for the year were elected: —Purity, Mrs H. Smith; Pcaoo • and Arbitration, Mrs Wise; Flower Mission, Mass Cole. A report on the woifeing of the tea rooms was presented, and it was resolved to tako steps to make them better known amongst members of tho Union. It was resolved that for the future the iirst part of the monthly meetings should! he de-vte-tl to business, and the latter part to educational discussions, a special subject being introduced for discussion at each meeting, th© meetings closing at 4.30 p.m. A balance-sheet for the year 1903 was presented and adopted. It was decided to hold 1 - a special mooting on February 17th, in connection with /
the -passing away of Miss Frances WjJ-' lard, the founder of the Union, jlre Cole, the president, was aippointedl dolegate to the annual Dominion.Convention, to bo held at Wellington, on March 17th. A letter was received from the High Commissioner, in reference to a protest forwarded by the Union against certain remarks made at a congress at Amsterdam by a Mra Steele, adverse to the results achieved by women's franchise and No-license in New Zealand. The High Cornmiasioner wrote that he would endeavour to forward a copy of the resolution to Sirs Steele, and would, as far as possible, give publicity to tbe resolution, although, so far as he -was aware, tho re marks had not attracted any attentzoi in Great Britain.
