THE UNEMPLOYED.
A SERIOUS OUTLOOK
(special, to "the pkess.")
WELLINGTON, January 25. (t appears from reports which have come from country districts that the unemployed difficulty is likely to bo aenous during the next few months, if not for a longer period. In practically every town in the Wellington provincial district there is evidence of financial stringency, and the cutting down of staffs iv almost every business, as well as on farms. At the samo time there are large numbers of artisan immigrants arriving in tho nountry, and there is apparently no provision made for their employment. Ma.sterton appears to have been, badly invaded during the past few weeks by unemployed, over 150 -persons having applied at one labour agency for work, these people comprised carpenters engineers, pnn-ers, bricklayers, and plasterers, and numbers of them visited local farms m the hope of cottine a-mething to do. *
