NORTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK LINE.
THE THROUGH TIME-TABLE.
(SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.'')
WELLINGTON, January 26,
It is the intention of the Railway Department to begin the Main Trunk through service with a train from Auckland on Sunday evening, February 14th, to reach Wellington in time to connect with the steamer for the South on Monday. A train for the North will leave Wellington on tho Monday. Approximately the trains aro to leavo Wellington" at 11.30 a.m. (arriving at Auckland at 7 a.m. on the following day), and depart from Auckland, at 8.30 p.m. (reaching Wellington at 4.30 p.m. next day), but these times are only tentative. Various factors may yet cause a slight readjustment. The through time-table may be affected by the difference in speed between the Maori and the Mararoa. It may bo possible to start on the through run from Invercargill to Auckland on "Maori days" three times a week, leaving the Mararoa to connect with the New Plymouth express on alternate days. However, it is not improbable that tho Mararoa may be run to fit in with the Auckland scheme, but in that case she would miss the train for New Plymouth. AU the sleeping cars aro not likely to be ready by the middle of next month, but somo will be on the road. Tho fee may bo 10s; it will be uniform, for the "sleepers" will be all of one class. Tho ordinary single fares from Wellington to Auckland will be 39s Id first class, and 22s 2d second class.
