SNOWSTORM AT HOME.
TO THK EDITOR OF "THIS _R____" Sir, —Your correspondent, "A Christchurch Girl," is in error as to the date oi the snowstorm and hail blizzard that occurred last spring in England, also the collision in the Channel that happened at that time. Her account reads that the events were in May. I was a passenger on tho Now Zealand Shipping Company's lluapehu, which reached Plymouth on tlie evening of the 24th ot April, and friends ol passengers, who mciv landing there, brougut the news of tho severest snow and hailstorm that had ever been experienced in the memory of man, aud during tho night in the Channel the fog-horn constantly blowing, and the slowing of the vessel, made us aware wo were in very bad weather, for on tho morning of the 2_th there wero four inches of snow on deck. At 5 p.m. that day wo passed tho St. Paul, the large liner which a few hours later came in collision with the Gladiator, causing sad loss of life, the news of which"" we got at Gravcsend on the morning of the 26th. We arrived in London a few hours later. I never saw or heard of snow after that date.—Yours, etc., J. E. CLARK.
