MR ELL'S PAMPHLET.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —I have just had. shoved underneath my door a pamphlet issued by Mr H: G. Ml. Tito apparent object of tho pamphlet is obviously to convey tho impression, to the guHiMes that Mr EH is one of the chief factors in
bestowing- blessings on the people of the Dominion. I have only trmo_ to mention ono alleged blessing, i.e., State insurance. Can Mr Ell prove that that department has not been run at a loss to tho ratepayers? I am quit-o satisfied that lie has bod nine years of education in the science of not d<osiring to suggest a remedy for tho totalisator disease, which machine is a thing that should be prohibited- in his opinion. Again, at ono of his meetings, Mr Ell talked what, to my mind, was bunkum about' working men's and women's cheap tram fares. Why, ho knows perfectly well that tho ratepayers will very shortly havo to pay a rato to meet a deficiency in th* earning expenses of our tram servico at th© present scale of fares. If tho people only would consider the truth of the old sayings, "A new broom sweeps clean," "Familiarity breeds contempt," '•Now blood begets better stock," '•There are better fish in tho sea than ever was caught," etc., the result mi gilt b© that on Tuesday next tho professional politician will giro plaoo to the aspiring practical man.—Yours, etc., NO GULL.
