THE JUDICIARY BILL.
(SPECIAL TG "THE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, September 27. In speaJiing to a "Now Zealand Times" representative regarding the new Judiciary Bill, the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) remarked that ho had not as yet seen the proposed measure and consequently could not express any opinion Tvith regard to it, enren i£ Sic were inclined to do so. But ho pointed out that tho Commission which sat in 18S1, and , -wheso report dealt witlh matters pertaining to the Court of Appeal, and tho Supremo Court, re commended that the Court of Appeal should sit in Christchurch as well as in Wellington. His Honour added that, as a matter of fact, tho sittings of tttio first Court cif Appeal in New Zealand were held in Christchurch, and the second in Dunedin. Aβ to the suggestion that this Court should sit in Wellington because- of tihe fact that tho capital city possesses a better law library than that to <be found in any of the other three principal cities in the Dominion, his Honour seemed to doubt tho trutih ctf the statement. In his view there is apparently little to chocs© between, the law libraries in WellSagtonj Auckland, ChristdiMirob, and Dunediro, and! periiaps Iho southernmost city can boast of more books than any of tho others. E" tho Court of Appeal were peripatetic and visited , each o<f the larger centres of population, it rorcght happen that tho work of tho Supreme Court Judges would be" considerably lessened, for numerous cases wihich now ©cm© before the Sxipromo Court sitting iv Banco would, no doubt, bo referred to th© Court of Appeal and thero dealt with.
