THE AMERICAN FLEET.
« PREPARATIONS FOR ITS RECEPTION. (special to "the phess. , ') AUCKLAND, July 3.
Preparation for Fleet Week proceed apace. Good progress is being made by all the executive, the uovernmont Commissioners, the various sub-ofnimittees. and tho Government and other officials, in the work of arranging all the details of the heavy programme that will occupy Auckland from August &th to 16th. The task is not a light one; for Auckland is going to do tho thing properly. But it has been so admirably supervised and subdivided that everything is running smoothly, and before the fleet drops anchor in the harbour, all will bo complete. The executiyo has been meeting daily ever since its formation, and the members have given up a great portion of their time in order to ensure that Auckland's welcome to tho fleet shall be one that will reflect credit on tho Dominion. The various subcommittees are also active and meet from time to time as occasion requires to perfect the arrangements of their particular portions of the. programme. Enquiries and requests for accommodation are coming in in increasing numbers every day, and tho Government Commissioners are kept busy dealing with them. Mr Donne stated yesterday that there have been many letters and telegrams from members of Parliament for house room during Fleet Week, and that the Commissioners had been successful in finding sufficient accommodation. In addition, there are many enquiries from all over New Zealand, somo coming to tho Commissioners, others to the executive, and others booking privately. All tho hotels are alrendv full up. and tho boarding-houses are following suit. It looks as though Auckland will be very full indeed during Fleet Week.
