THE McCARTHY FUND.
* A particularly distressing case of need was recently discovered in Timaru, the father of a family having been suddenry bereft of his sight some eight months ago by an accident. His wife struggled bravely to keep tho home together by going out washing, but little by littlo the furniture went to provide bare necessities, until very little was left. There are three children in the family, and at Christmastimo on one particular <>co_sion there was not even a crust in tbo house. Since tho pitiable facts wero maelo known, suoscript-ions have been raised in aid of the unfortunate people, and their helpk-_ children, and the effort thus far has met with considerable success.
