The Burnside trouble, which only concerned seven or eight men employed in the freezing chamber, was amicably settled this morning; A representative of tho Christchurch Meat Com- . pany interviewed the mon and agreed :to pay Is 3d per hour for ordinary time and Is 5d overtime instead of Is IJd. The higher rates are those granted under tho award made this year in the north. The men here are not working under any award, but the Company, on ascertaining that higher . rates were paid elsewhere, agreed to the men's demands. As far as can bo , ascertained there was no idea among j the men of a general strike.
