Maslin a.t on Wednesday, writes to the effect that Mr Maslin has definitely decided, under any. circirmstances, to contest the Ashburton scat in the Opposition interest at the general elec- . M f H ',PP ar, 4 (% Mayor of Ashburtcn') and Mr Flatman (tho preK?nt, member fer .Geraldine) have an* nounced tliemselves as certain candidates in the Government interest, ard l ~. * ,000 » a » been selected by the Ashburton branch of the Political Labour League; but beyond this no definite puhlic announcement has been mado of his intention to contest the seat. Tho name of a fifth probable candidate is being freely- mentioned but-so far nothing cartain caw be stated in this respect.
