SOUTHLAND. PRODUCE MARKET.
Our Invercargill oorresporidont writes that the oata market has kept steady during the past Aveek. but the business done has been of a limited character. In anticipation ,of an active demand from Australia, the future of the market is looked forward to with confidence. Hitherto, however, the export business done has been mainly with Iho jVorth Island. For this season's Southland oats, merchants have adopted last year's grades. The average quality of this season's oats is so good taat on this basis the bulk of the crop, will rank as "A" grade. The present quotation is (2s at wayside stations, with a- penny to twopence more for large parcels suitable for export. The export price is 2s 6d to 2s 7d r'.o/b. There- is no wheat offering. Chaff Js bow; <>oming forward- in largt quantities, though farmers are. not keen to sell at present prices, the highest figure at present obtainable being £3 10s at railway sidings. As a rule the quality of the - chaff coming forward is excellent. . There is not much business doing in potatoes, the demand not being very active until later iii tho season whoii seed is required for the North. As n rule tho potatoes are clean and there has not been a word said about blight this season.
