It is estimated that the number of drowned in tlio pearling fleet disaster is six whites and 100 coloured men. Forty luggers a.nd three schooners ore estimated to be lost, and the damage is assessed at £40,000. A Jap was found after being for fivo days in the water, whilst & MaJay was picked up after clinging to a deck house for three days. It was at Geoffrey Bay. wihere most of liho luggers were slmltering, that the hurricane burst. In its fury, it sruuroed tho anchor chains, and tih© vessels crashed one ■against another in foarful confusion, meuiy being smashed UJ>.
