COUNTY COUNCILS.

WAIMATE. The last meeting of the Waimate County Council was attended by Messrs Rhodes (chairman), Milne, Lyall, Elworthy, P. Studholme, Walker, Smillie, Hart, and Hardie. Eighteen cases of infectious disease (mainly scarlet fever) were notified. Dr. Finch, .District Health Officer, was present, and was consulted as to the procedure to be followed in view of such a continued increase in cases of infectious disease. The Borough Council wrote recommending that. the School Committee and headmaster be asked to have the school fumigated during the time the school -was closed for holidays. The sanitary inspector reported having disinfected ten houses where cases of ecarlet fever had , occurred. A number of motions were carried relating to suggested amendments in the Publio Health Act in regard to epidemics. The Levels County Council was requested to convene a conference to consider seme uniform method of dealing with the destruction of small birds. A motion was passed expressing appreciation of the services of Mr J. Manchester.
