M —-—-*-— CITY -RIFLES. The Christehureh Oi'ty Rifles held their twenty-eixth annual meeting at their orderly-room, Kkig Edwajd liarruclcs, an the liJtli instant. Captain Jtarthing presided,; and hud with liira Lien tenants, Steero and Col-co, and there wae a. good attendance of members. 'ihe balance-sheet showed the compa.ny to be in a ttounid tinanci-al position, there being a surplus of assets over liabilities oi £317 life. In commenting oil the work of the year, Captain. The company had lost Captain Loasby, who had given up the- comm-aind on account of pressure of private business, and. Lieutenant Salter, who hod moved to the North. Is-land. They had also lost Sergeant A. Dodd, who h»nd secured:a position in PaiimersftoTi Noa-fch. He had been in- the company forjfourteen years, was an exeriwent and a good sergeant. tlis removal was very much regretted. During the year blw company's orderly-room hsd been* extended a<nd renovated, and was now a credit to the corps. .The .ShootiiKr Committee reported t-nat Sergeant Coolr ltad won the "A" class (handicap .competition, Private Earls the Fairburn Cup for "B" clnes, and Private Knrg the Recruits' Cup. The company had not done ve-H in bhe Shiield matches, but since Ctiptoin Farthing had -taken eommaiiid interest in shooting h,nd made a good revival, and the outlook was now very encouraging. It wo.s reported that a number of men had gcn<? in for signalling, and Sergeant Cook . and I*a.nce-Corporal Hulbert had with -a very higih percentage of rp.nrlis.
