♦ - - Admiral Sir Wilmot and Lady Fawkes, accompanied by Lieutenant Willoughby, arrived at Dunedin last evening, after an enjoyable trip to Queenstown. The party leave to-day for Mount Cook. Mr Justice Johnston, of Melbourne, who is on a visit to New Zealand, and who has been spending some time in Queenstown, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. J)r. Levinge, Mr D. D. Smith, who has for tho past three and a half years been Sunday school teacher at Duvauchelle's flay, was recently presented by her pupils with a silver teapot and an afternoon tea «et. Mr and Mrs Moore, of Cheviot, who are leaving the district for the North Island, were entertained at a farewell social on Tuesday night, and presented with a purso of sovereigns. Tho R-ev. A. 31. Johnson, Vioar of St. Matthew's, Masterton, has been appointed to succeed the ]ate Rev. It. CV>ffpy, os Vicar of St. Mark's parish, Wellington. Mr R. Hepworth, who hns been in charge of the local offico of the Valuation Department, has resigned his position, and in a few days goes- into business on his own account, es a partner in a commercial firm in this city. 3lr Hopworth has been in charge of the Valuation Department, tho Land end r ncome Tax Department, and tho Advances to vSettlers Department in this city for four years, end lias been in the Government service for 16i yearns. During tho time Mr Hepworth has been here, the business connected with the departments under his charge has greatly increased, and those who have met Mr Hepworth on departmental matters have ever found him courteous and ready to explain difficulties. The namio of Mr Hopwortih'e successor is not known locally.
