A CHARGE OF THEFT.

(press association telegram.) , WELLINGTON, November 29. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Archibald McNab was charged with stealing, in May last, £115 from David Sutherland. . The latter disappeared from his lodgings, and his body was subsequently found in Wellington Harbour. Chief Detective MoGratn eaid there was not the slightest suspicion that the theft was in any. way connected with Sutherland's death. Sutherland, who was a deaf mute, wae discharged from prison, in May, after serving a month for habitual drunkenness, and when discharged he had a cheque for £115, and £5 in notes and gold. Evidence wae called to show that the accused and a man named Hinds were seen with Sutherland, and it is alleged that they took the money from him. When the body was found there was only.one penny in the pockets of deceased's clothing. The further hearing of the case wae adjourned till Wednesday.
