VITAL STATISTICS.

The totel births in the four principal centres amounted to 604 agAjnet 575 in September, an increase of 29. The deaths in October were 270, a de~ crenee of 10' on the number in September. Of tihe total deaths make contributed 129j foroeJee 141. Forto-mx of the deaths were of children under five years of ago, being 17.0 per cent, of tihe •whole number. Thirty-five of then© were tmder one year of ege. There were 88 deaths of pereone of 65 yeare and utpwirds.
