CHEVIOT.

The annual soiree in connection with the Presbyteriun Church was hold in the Town TiaU on Thursday evening. The. tables were provided by the lady members of tho congregation, and there was a krgo attendance. ' After the tables had been cleared, the Rev. T. Tait, of St. Paul's, Christehuroh, gave his "Drawing-room Entertainment," and showed that is an elocutionist of exceptional At intervals songs wore sung by Misses Steeds ond Winterboume. and a violin solo was given by Mr Blain with pianoforte accompaniment by Miss Fleming. Mrs Gee played the accompaniments to tho songs. On Suuday the Rev. Mr Campbell, of Waiau, conducted the anniversary services at the different centres to large congregations. On Saturday evening the nnnual meeting of the Brass Band was held. Mr W. T. Robinson, president, occupied t the chair. There was a fair attendance, including the trustees. Tho annual report end the balance-sheet, showing a sound financial position, with a balance of £3 6s 9d, the uniforms paid for, and the instruments nearly so, were read, and considered extremely satisfactory. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr W. T. Bobinson (re-elected); bandmaster, Mr O. Chapman (re-elected); treasurer, M|r .Freeman (re-elected); secretary. Mr Hughes; auditors, 'Means Baird and Cottrell. It was decided to alter the picnic from October to February. The following scale of charges was fixed: — 'For playing at β-thletio eporte, £5; racing otub, £7 and show £7. ASHBURTON.
