BURGLARY AT LYTTELTON.
Shortly oifter mddnighifc on Sunday night, while Coneltaiblo who was on night duty, was making hie usual round, he found that the door of tihe shop of Mr Robert Forbes, ironmonger, Norwich. quay, Lyittelton, had been forced with some slfarp instrument. He pushed the door 6pen and entered the shop and flashed his lamp round the interior. The;constable caught sight of a short, thick-set man armed witu a marlin-«pike. The man made a rush to escape, but Wilson closed with him, and a desperate struggle took pkoe. The constable pluckily grappled with his man, who caught him by the arm and endeavoured to throw him. Wilson, struck the ( burglar several blows on the face with a pair of handcuffs and caught him by tho throat. The man resisted a little longer and struck the constable several times, but when assistance arrived he gave up tho struggle. He was then handcuffed and taken to the policestation, where ho was safely locked up. On, being searched, it was found that tho man had seven metal watches in his pocket. The name of the roam is James Wilson, alias Chnoiles 13dward Campbell, alias Charles Duncan. He was brought before str. J. Garrard, J.P., at the Lyttekon Court yesterday morning and _wee charged with breaking and entering the premises of Robert Forbes and stealing therefrom seveu,. watches valued at £11 7s. The police applied for a remand to enable them to make further enquiries regarding accused, who was accordingly remanded untii Wednesday. Accused had been boarding at tho Lyttelton Sailors' Home since October 28th. His room was searched yesterday morning, and a quantity of gelignite and fuse was discovered. The police also found that accused had fixed up an electric wire to connect his room with the bathroom.
