Hβ represented Eden r or 33 years. Mr John. Hood, at one time one of ho most prominent men in business in )amaru, diied <m Thursday morning ufter a 'long illness. The "Wairarapa Times" announces he death of Mr A. E. Ton Keisenberg,, vho -was recognised as an authority n musical matters, and who, for 26 'ears past, had devoted himself to the Qusical education of Muter ton. Mr Ton Keisenberg was born in Saxony in 857, and educated at the Civil College n Darmstadt, studying music under he well-known composer, Herr kjhmidt, who taught, among others, he late Prince Henry of Battenberg. Ifter completing his education at a nilitary college in Berlin, Mr Yon Eeisenberg passed the , necessary examinations, and was appointed an officer n the German ,army, in which he erred four years. After a visit to Sngland, he came to New Zealand in he ship Euterpe, and established himelf as professor of music in Lyttelton. n 1881 he settled in Masterton. He ras the conductor of the first Operatic Society in Masterton, and was conlected with a great many of the local ocicties. (press association teleokam.) * WHANGAREI, November 24. Simon Fraser, a very old colonist, died last night at Whangarei, aged 85. Ho came to the colony from Sutherlandehire, 60 years ago. He was first on the Baltarat goldfields, and afters wards opened up goldfields in Otago. Hβ several timee petitioned Parliament for compensation on the latter account.
