FIRES.
▼. At 11.30 last night a fire was discovered by some passers-by at the rear of «• four-roomed cottage in Tuam street East, near Moorhouse avenue, occupied by 'Mrs Gillespie and her brother. An alarm was givj.ii, and in tho meantime th© furniture was removed from the premises, and th© firo kept in check until tho arrival of the chemical engine, which subdued the outbreak before any great daonago was dono. Tho firo is supposed to havo originated from tho lamp of a bicycle left in th© scullery. Tho furniture was uninsured, and it oould not lie ascertained last night whether there was nny policy covering tho houso * (owned by Mr Hobbs). Tho damage to the scullery amounts to about £10. (PI.E9S ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, November 21. A fir© occurred this afternoon in a six-roomed homoin Ireland street, occupied by Mm_ Winters, and owned by Mr A. L. Smith, the building .being practically gutted. Some plumbers wero working on the roof at the back of the house, and it is .suggested that the outbreak may have been caused by some molten solder falling on to the woodwork of the back landing. The only insurance on tho furniture was a 1-oliey covering the piano, and as practically nothing ivas saved, Mrs Winters suffered a _,evere less.
