The Council resumed at 7.30 p.m. NATIVE LAND SETTLEMENT. Th© second reading of th© Native Land Settlement Bill was carried by 25 votes to 2. In. Committee on th© Bill, Claus© 10, which empowers the Governor in Council, on the request of the Commission, to prohibit all private alienation of land "reported on by tlie Commission," The ATTORNEY-GENERAL moved to strikoout tho words "reported on by tho Commission," with a view to inserting the words: —"Of any area of native land, whether such land has been reported on by th© Commission or not." Speculation might be going on ahead of the Commission, ho said, and he wished to prevent any such thing taking place. The amendment was agreed to on th© voices. The Bill was reportod with amendments, u,nd put through its final stage., by 24 votes to 1. The Council rose at 9.30 p.m. until 11 a.m. next day.
