KAIAPOI CO-OPERATIVE BUTCHERY COMPANY.

• A meeting of the Kaiapoi Co-opera-tive Butchery Company was attended by between 60 and 70 shareholders, in the ante-room of the Kaiapoi Oddfellows' Hall, on Monday evening. Mr T. Sullivan, chairman of directors, presided. He said the requisition for the meeting was signed by Mr H. C. Revell and twenty others, "to discuss the management and to pass a resolution for the better conduct of the affairs of the company." » In a long speech Mr Revell moved— "That this meeting has no confidence in the management of the Kaiapoi Co-operative Butchery, as at present constituted." He contended the management had departed from the primary objects of the company—selling the beet meat for cash at the lowest prices—and he alleged a shrinkage in business as shown in the difference between £1202 15s 7d and £1135, sales for the last two half years. Mr P. Edmonds, after the chairman had twice asked for a seconder, briefly seconded the motion. Mrs Ellenberger defended the mover of the motion. She said she had often to conTplain of the beef. Mr W. Eagle said this was due not to bad management, but to the poor class of meat that came into the market generally. In reference to Government inspection, the company's butcher stated that it was possible for the meat to be poor, but it certainly was now free from disease. Mr B. A. Knight referred to the large sum of £133 owing, and the £50 for incidental expenses. He moved as an amendment—"That the manager, having been tried, was not satisfactory, and should receive notice." The amendment was not seconded. The Chairman said those -who had most to do with th,e trade knew too well the trouble there wae to obtain prime fat cattle. Aldington market was one of the dearest in the Dominion. He considered the manager had served the company with every satisfaction. Four members of the committee had advanced money at a critical time to prevent the company being wound up. Mr Jtevell was stated to be seeking another situation, which the.committee heard he had obtained, and they gave him notice to leave. . Mr Revell said that beef for his own use was obtained from another shop, even when h.e was employed by the company. Mr Knight wished to move a further amendment, asking six of the committed to resign. On a show of hands being taken for Mr RevelFs motion, there were 17 for and 38 against, some of those present not voting.
