THE FEDERAL TARIFF.

ANALYSIS BY THE BRITISH TARIFF COMMISSION.

United Press Association—By Etatrio Telegraph— Copyright. (Received October 14th, 9.47 p.m. LONDON, October 14. Tho Tariff Commission has published an elaborate analysis of the new Australian tariff. It considers that while it will probably causo a transference of trad© from foreign countries to the United Kingdom and affect in relative proportions the different branches of British exports to Australia, it is unlikely to diminish, and may increase, the total volume of exports. It emphasises tho fact that under previous tariffs tho British share of the Australian import trade steadily diminished. Revision was necessary in the interests of the Australian revenue. The estimated value of Australian imports placed on the United Kingdom free list is at least three millions, and of those placed on the general free list is at least seven millions. There still remains a largo area of imports to which preference can be applied. (Received October 14th, 11.48 p.m.) The "Morning Post" says that the Tariff Commission's cold and clear analysis shows that Australian preference gives the Motherland at least a« great an advantage as the authors of tho tariff led England to expect.
