CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Chamber ol Commerce was held on Monday last, Mr A. Kaye, the newly-elected President, occupying tne chair. T* l6 . j* 0 "; J. A. Millar acknowledged receipt ot the Chamber's letter on the subject ot the Harbour Boards Bili, and stated that their representations would receive attention when the Bill was again before the House. The Hon. H. P. Wigram and Mr C. to. Gray, M.H.R., wrote with regard to the agitation for the reduction of the Lyttel-ton-Ohrischurch rates, stating that a deputation would _ shortly wait upon the Premier relative to the matter. The Oamaru Chamber forwarded a resolution with regard to the sire ot cornsacks, recommending that no alteration bo made in the present size, anu stating that if the weight wae fixed at 2001b it would , greatly interfere with the handling and stacking of wheat in their district. The W'estport Chamber congratulated this Chamber on the results of the agitation in favour oi the completion of the West Coasi Railway, -end with regard to tho irregularity of the steamers from Dunecuii via way ports, stateu that the Union Company was now paying more attention to local requirements. Mr J. H. Hopkins forwardted a letter haying reference to the decision of the Railway Department not to issue delivery notes for goods delivered at Woolston railway station. It was decided to repay that the procedure was the same as in Christchurch, and to suggest that the firm's carter provido himself with a book in which particulars of the deliveries could l be entered. The matter of, arranging for a delegate to visit Wellington to give evidence before the Extension of Commerce Committee wit.. regard to the size or corniacks, was left to the President.
