UNION ROWING CLUB
Tho annual meeting of the Union tlowing Club was held List night. Jlr F. D. Keeteven presided, and there was a large attendance of members. The annual report stated that there were 173 names on the membership roll, including 35 lady members. The boathouse and plant were in first-class order, and an Association clinker four and double-scullor hod been added to the plant. The club was fully represented at all the local regattas, and was successful in winning a tew of the races. The club races were keenly contested, large entries being received throughout the season, producing som« very Keen finishes. The dalieee held during the winter were exceptionally well attended, end proved a great success. The billiard table still taaihtaiued an attraction for members, ona from a monetary point of view hud again been most successful, the receipts being £15 7s lid. The Hon. H. F. Wigrim (President) had intimated hie intention to present the club with a President's Cup, and tho beet thanks of the membsrs were due to Mr Wnram for thet and other kind assistance. The Hon. O. Louisson, M.L.O. (vicepresident), had presented a handsome Challenge trophy for competition amongst the members, for which the club tendered ite sincerest thanks. The following life members—Messrs W. O. Ateck, C. J. Atkinson, A. E. Cnddock, 0. H. Cooper, F. B. Hyman, V. D. Kesteven, D. Lee, G. H. Mason, W. H. Travis—had presented the club with a Challenge Cup, to be competed for annimliy : x tr v - D- Kestevnti had presented to tho club a section of land at Bligh'e Gardens, New Brighton, which will be a very valuable asset, and most useful to members.
The balance-sheet showed that the receipts for the past senson were £430 10s 3d, and tho expenditure £527 12s Id, leaving a debit balance, of £S6 lGs Id. The chief expenditure was £90 10e, redemption of a mortgage and interest, and £02 3s Bd, new bents, onrs and sculls. The assets of the club were valued at £2G25 183 7d, while the liabilities were £775 16s Id.
The report and balance-eheet were adopted The- following officers were elected:— President, the Hon. H. F. Wigrnm; vice-presidents, the Hon. C. Louisson, and Mossrs R. Heiton Rhodes, M.H.R., and W. Recce; captain, 31r F. D. Ecetovrn ; hnn. secretary, Mr W. Woods; hon. treasurer, Mr G. L. Berry; deputy-captain, Mr G. H. Hobbs; management committee, Messrs J. Fry, AY. Duncan, T. Chambers, F. Otley, J. Stinnear, F. Banks, and C. W. Clark; racing committee, Messrs G. H. Hobbs «nd W. Dwgtran; delecat« to Sports' Protection Mr G. H. Cooper; delegates to the Canterbury Rowing Association. Messrs F. D. Keeteven nnl T. Chambers; hon. auditors, Messrs J. E. liiittoii end A. Poole. It wos reeolrod to support Labour Day as the diy for the opening .of the boating season.
