At a largely-attended meeting of the Committee of tho Now Zealand Shipowners' Fedei. on this afternoon, the Arbitration Ace Amendment Bifl now beforo Parliament was fully discussed, and tho foljowing motion was unanimously carried:—"That this Federation approves of the proposed amendments to, the Conciliation and Arbitration Act generally, and appreciates the efforta of the Government to.overcome tho difficulties which have hitherto attached to the settlement of Labour disputes."

NAPIER, September 6. A mectinß ot delog&tcs, from the various trades unions in Napier was held this evening to discuss tho proposed amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act. The meeting was unanimously opposed to the establishment oi an Industrial Council, nnd also to many other of tho proposed alterations.

A largely-attended meeting of tht. Hawko'e Bay branch of the Employers' Association was held to-day, when the following resolution were adopted: — (1) That this Association npprovo of thh mothod of appointing Industrial Councils, provided satisfactory arrangements enn be made by the nppointmem of suitable and permanent presidents of unquestionable ability, and that two presidents should bo appointed for each Island. (2) That tho proposed method of collecting workmen'e finee by the employer bo strongly objected to by thie Association. (3) That this Association approves of tho proposnl that contributions to unions and associations by other than members should be made compulsory. (4) That applications for permits to work for Ices than tho minimum wage should be made to tho Inspector of Awards. (5) That this Association disapproves of tlio inclusion of gasworks nm! elpctrieal eriorcy works under tho Factories Act. (G) Thai this Association is of opinion that the half-holiday now appointed for shops and factories fthonld no marie applicable to all places oxcont the four chief centres —Auckland. Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin.
