WELLINGTON, August 30. On the Stock .exchange to-day, <; sale was effected in Union. Steams ai £18 7s Gd, the best price yet touched by these shares. A buyer of Wellington and Manawatu Rails was supplied at 425, end tho D.I.C. prelefenct changed hands at 22s 9d. Talisman;, had v brisk demand, sales being recorded at 49s 6d, 49s 9d and 50s. \Vaihis sold at £8 19s.
At Leeston yesterday Messrs H. Matson and Co. disposed of 28 acres, situated «t Irwell, in the estate of the lato Michael McPolan, to Mr P. Connell, late ot Lakeside, at £31 per acre. Mr Fred Lill's property nt Let-ton was passed in at £600. that being tho only Did.
Tho statement of Customs' duties collected at the Port of Lvttelton during tho week ending August 30th is as follows .—Spirits, i;l7_o lis 3d; cigars, cigarettes, and snutf, £509 Gs Hd; tobacco, £1196 fa; v.me, £92 18s 3d; beer, -43 Us 8d; tea, £11 17s lOd; coffee, cocoa, and chocolate, £19 19s; sugar, molasses, and treacle, £285 14s 9d; weight, £829 Ifis lOd; ad valoreu, £892.2 7s Sd; other duties, £321 17s 7d; total, £14,027 7s 3d.
