GREYMOUTH, July 28. In ©onnection with the new tariff* •proposed extra duty on dental good*, the New Zealand dentiste consider this unwarranted, and are Appealing to the Government on the matter. Yesterday Mr W; E. Reynolds, secretary of the West Coast Denial Association, telegraphed to the Hon. A. A. Guinneat end Air T. E. Y. Seddon pointing out the hardship upon the poorer population if prices- here to be re bed. At Blackwater the recent gale blew with great force. The ladder of +he Blackwater dredge was overturned, and the work of restoring it is not yet completed, m> that operations have been compulsorily 'suspended for the week. Messrs Dennehy Bros.,- flaxntilfers, of Berrytown, had the misfortune to lose a large area of flax on Sunday, it appears that the firm had a large area of lend cleared, and taking advantage of the etrong wind on /Saturday, decided on a burn. During the night a gale sprung up and carried the lire to the large area of flax/ which w«s destroyed. This loss is a serious one, as it will throw a number of men out of employment during the season. Fifty trucks, containing 600,000 ft of timber, came dorfn the Otira line yesterday for shipment. This constitutes a record for one day. It is that a similar quantity will be brought down to-morrow. To-day the Phmnix Syndicate (late Ulster) started cfushing. The manager, Mr Hodden, who has left the lnglewood mine, which has been closed down, is in charge. Experienced miners are of tho opinion that the Phoonix crushing will yield a satisfactory result. The election of the second'telegraph line between Westport and Reefton will be completed in about six weeks. A metallic circuit ia being installed, and when the work is completed, there will bo telephonic communication between , Wcetport, Reofton, and Greymouth. Air Albert Nees has bought the Hauhau dredge for £200, and \lr Cederman the Maori King machinery for £60.
