CLEARING SALE AT FERNSIDE.
One of the mast successful clearing sales, and a record attendance of North Canterbury buyers, being present from all parts of Canterbury, was conducted by the North Canterbury Co-op, at Fernsside, on Thursday, on account of Messrs J. G. A. and C Iluddenklau, who have sold their property, containing 1150 acres of freehold .and SCO leasehold, to tho Trustees of the late James Johns. The sale started at 11 o'clock sharp, with the implement!! mid sundries, which sokl up to full market values. The buyers were then taken to the woolshed, where the slteep wore, offered, which were penned in excellent style, and came forward in good condition. Considering the dry season, and want of feed, they realised good prices* as follows:— 2-50 Half bred owes (1 and 6-tooth), 20s; 3'JO threequnrter-bred ewes (4 and 6-tooth), 18s 3d; 320 owo hoggets, 15s 7d; 193 8-tooth threequarter-brcd ewes, 18s 7d; 201 five-year-old ewes, 12s 3d; 202 8-tooth hay-bred ewes, 18s 3d: 121 forward hoggets, 13s 3d; 85 2-tooth ewes, 17s Id; 55 4 and G-tooth threequarter-bred ewes, 18s Gd; 209 4-year-old ewes, ltis 10d; 203 aged owes, 11s. The principel buyers were:—Messrs T. Sutton, J. Johns, S. Gibbs, Belcher Bros., John Smith, C. 0. Kourke, and F. Ruddenklau. Tho draught horses sold up to expectations, being 6 years, 8 years to 10 years old. The chief prices were:— £36, £32, £30, £28. Dairy cows, up to £7. 9 The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., held their usual monthly sale of grain and produce yesterday afternoon, at their Durham etreet warehouses. There was a good attendance of tho trade. Wheat—Milling Hunters sold at 4s 3d to 4a 4d, ex store; seconds wheat, at 3s 9Jd- Onts —These were in good demand, and sold at 2s IOJd to 3s per bushel. Chaff—A fair quantity of medium quality was offered, and sold as foDows :—Oaten sheaf, 703 to 80s. straw, 37a od to 455. I'otatoos —There w<l3 a very poor enquiry for these, ard 70s was the h.jhest price obtainable. The statement of Customs duties collected at the Port of Lyttelton during the week ending July sth, is as follows:—Spirits, £2-10 13s Gd; cigars, cigarettes, and snuff, £181 f)s 4d; tobacco, £601 10s 3d; wine, £211 2s lid; beer, £77 4s 10d; tea, nil: coffee, cocoa end chocolate. £37 13s; augor, molasses and treaclo, £113 17s 4d: weight, £30G ft* 8d: ud valorem. £°0o 115s 3d; other duties, £lbl lGs; total, £6043 3s Id.
The National Mortgage end Agency Company report having sold, on account of Mr Wm. liirdling (late of Port Levy), his farm on the Drain Road, Halswell, to Mr Samuel Sparks.
