SYDENHAM CLUB SUSPENDED.

THE TOURNAMENT DISORGANISED. There is considerable* excitement just now amongst hockey players and others interested in that game, owing to a dispute between the Canterbury Hockey Association and the Sydenham Hockey Club. Tho latest phaso is that the Association has disqualified all the members of the .Sydenham Hockey Club pending an apology from that club to a certain official. The tronWo arose in connection with a team which we,it to tho West Coast some nino months ago under the auspices of the Association. It seems that the members of tho team deposited individually with the manager certain sums of money towards their travelling expenses. On the way back the manager went into tho accounts, and is said to J havo announced the result to the members of tho team in the train on this side of Springfield. As to what he told them, statements differ. Tho Sydenham men say" that he informed them there was 17s 10d duo to oneli of them. but the manager himself, it seems, claims to have told them that the expenses had exceeded tho dpposits by a few shillings. However, no money passed either way. and recently the .Sydenham Club decided to take up the case of thn plovers who considered that money ivns duo to them. Accordingly, the club wrote to the Association, stating tho facts as they appeared to them, and asking for an enquiry. Tho'man■nger oi tho team produced a balonce*her>t. of tho tour', audited in duo form, ■Jiici accompanied by an auditors not©, which supported his position. After inspecting the club's minute-book and questioning some of tho members, the Association took the view that tho •Sydenham Club h«d virtually laid grave charges against the manager of the representative team, and hau failed to substantiate such charges. Theroforo the Association declared all the members of tho club suspended until tho club apologises to the manager of tho late te:im. Tho club is apparently not it all inclined to give in. Tho members er.y that their letter did not cx/nstituto any charge ..-yainst the manager, but that after nino months' del/iy they wore quite jusufir."! in asking for tho fuirinccs of tb<? tour to Ik> finally fettled. They id so comphin that their sneoially-anpointcd representative w.u improperly rwiisod admisfiioii to the enquiry, which, it may ako be noted, was closed to tho Prows. The Sydenham Club intends to appeal to tho Council of the Nov. Zealand Heekey Association. In the meantime, the huek<sy tonrnaim nt of tho fieaeon is disorganized.
