THE ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

TO IHI KDITOn Oir "THE PRESS." Sir, —I road with keen interest in your Saturday's issue (Juno 29th), ot the meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Horticultural Society, and wae dtelighted to see that a movement is being made to affiliate that Society with the Royal Horticultural Society. I feel sure that this is a step in the right direction as regards horticulture. I havo already suggested to my Board (Domain) that they should become members of that Society. The subscriptions are small, but nominations must go through two, who are already' Fellows of the Society. Mr R. Heaton llhodoe, M.H.R., would,. I feel sure, eign any nomination paper, and I should be delighted to second it. By the various Boards and Societies associating thetnselvce with the R.H.S. we should bo enabled from time to time to get a great number of new plants that wo do not now possess. All literature of the Society is cent to each member as a matter of course, and I should be pleased to place at the service «f tho C.H.S. the "R.H.S. Journal," which was sent to mc this year- The general superintendent of the R.H-fcs. gardens at Wisley is a {articular pergonal friend of mine, and know that he, also the secretary and members of tho various committees (the majority of whom I am pereonally acquainted with), -would use their utmcet endeavours to eend anything they could to us, to assist horticulture in New Zealand.—Yours, etc., JAS. DA WES, F.R.H.S., Domain Gardens, Chrietchurch. June 30th, 1907.
