THE DOMAIN.

TO THI TOITOB OF "THB PMSS. ,, Sir, —Permit mc ac an old resident of Christchureh, to heartily endorse the suggestions contained in your sub-leader in to-day's issue, relative to the Domain. That the latter needs popularising must be patent to every peieoD who visits it. At present, and indieedb co far as I know all along, the Domain—a really beautiful spot—might form the ground*, of some privato residence, for ail uw interest that the general public appear to take- in it. Go there when you will, and it is the same story—a solitude. Even the children give the place a wide berth, and in this respect, differ very greatly from th& children of Dunedin, who seom to delight in the beautiful gardens of the southern city, and make a regular playground of them. Your suggestions of band performances in our own gardens, and tlhe erection of a tea kiosk, are aclimirable. I would further suggest, in the interests of the children, tJuu a largo eand heap—iwihioh might bo fenced off— ■would be a very great attraction, supplying, almost within the city, one of the most popular features to little folks of the seaside. I believe those eand Ibeape are a very great success in some of the London parks and recreation grounds, and if the Acclimatisation Society would add a few more specimens to their collection, which, -when I visited it last consisted of one wallaby.—evidently euifering from melancholia—and a few duaks, it would help very materiany to TKiTMilfirisf the gnrdens. In Dunedin the public gardens are on« 01 mt ~i liKup.d ids-vn-ts of the people. In Chrifitdrurch the public gardens are utterly neglectedi. Plainly, something ought to be done.—You re, etc., CHRISTCHUROH. Juno 25th.
