THE WARRNAMBOOL-MELBOURNE ROAD RACE.
The Dunlop Rubber Company were advised by cable yesterday of the safe arrival in Melbourne of the New Zealand contingent, by the s.s. Warrimoo," who will represent this colony in the Warraanibool-Melbourno Road Race of IGS miles, which.is, to be run next Saturday, their handicaps being as follows:—
P. M. O'Connor, H. E. Mehrtensand G. Smith lOmin, A. Birch 24min, T. Campbell 28min, E. F. Boyce 40min. There are 235 accepters for this great event, which will be set in motion at 5.45 a.m., at which hour the limit men will be sent on their long journey, whilst the scratch men will be got Away 70 minutes later.
Arrangements have been made by the Dunlop Company for the receipt of progress reports as the riders pass the following feeding stations:—Camperdown (45 miles), Geelong (119 miles), and Werribeo (135 miles). Tho reports will be posted at the various cycle shops throughout Christchurch.
The annual report of the Canterbury Centre of the League of Wheelmen states that the receipts were £6017s 6d, including £11 8s Gel balance brought forward from last year, whilst the expenditure was £46 lis 4d, leaving a credit balance of £14 6s 2d, an increase on the previous year. The number of licenses issued during tlie past year has irxsreased to a very satisfactory extent, whilst at the same time it is to be regretted that the number of amateur licenses issued shows a marked falling off. Tho licenses issued were as follows: —Cash 79 (increase 31), amateur 13 (decrease 6), motor 20 (increase 7).
