Friday Evening. Towards tihe end of last week there was a better feeling in the wheat market, but tihe Ijondon cahles stating thai the Home market waa weaker in consequence of the favouax-bl© harvest weather, has caused prospective buyers to hold off again. There is therefore no business to report in regard to wheat, and the same is to be aadd of oats. Owing to the sharp rise in the price of pigs a further ad-ranoe has been made in bacon and hams. The undermentioned are tho prices paid to farmers, at countrry stations," free of commission, except where otherwise specified:—■ 'Wheat (nominal) —Tuscan 3s 3d, Pearl 3<s 2d, Hunters 3s Id, at country stations. Cailves made from 17s 6d to 30s, springers JG2 5s te £7 12s 6d, and ono steer went for £6 ss. TEMUKA. Our Temuka correspondent writes:— During tho week business in all lines has been on a limited scale. Holdere of prime milling lines of wheat show no uneasiness, and do not push to make sales. Farmers wire hold etocfk ask up to 3s 6d, at which price vory little busiines. is being done. There is practically no spring thrashing to do in this district of either wheat or oats. The oat market remains stagnant. There are no oats offering from farmers, but on the other hand they : aro buyers of both seed and 1 feed. Tho stocks held here ore so small that they ] are not worth consideration. The demand must chiefly bo supplied frcrtn Southland. There has not been much passing, but tho market has a firm and steady tone for all lines-. Sheaf chaff and potatoes are firmer arid, in strong demand, with none offering. Other lines remain) without quotable change. ASHBURTON. Our Aflhbnrfon oc-rrsfipondent writes: "Wheat—There has been slightly bettor enquiry on the part of buyers, but still not sufficient to move off the quantity of wheat which is now available, and several large holders are only asking market quotations. A number of small lines have been sold to go south, but on tbe other hand there has been mo enouiry whatever from the north. Meanwhile, quotations remain unaltered: Tuscan 3s 3d, Pearl 3s 2d, Hunter's 3s Id. Oats—The* absence of coastal ordc-rs is keeping the market in a depressed state, and although prices have not receded, sales are very difficult to effect, and almost out of the question, for large lines. It is reported that stocks are becoming kss in the South Island, and buyers therefore wdl probably bo in tho market very shortly. The «Tle of a few fair-sized parcels would very socci set the market on its lem again. Quotations aro: (imad_an_ 2, 3d,°Gartons and heavy Duns 2s 2d, abort feed 2s Id, Danish ls lid.
