"United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received August 10th, 9.34 p.m.) LONDON, August 10. The death is a-inounced of Mr Mathesou, formerly Railway Commission or in Victoria, who subsequently took service in the Midland Railway Company. The death is announced of Mr O. R. Strickland, director of tlie New Zealand Shipping Company,' Ltd. MR MATTHEW DALZIEL. Mr Matthew Dalziel, sen-, died at Amber ley on .Friday, at the age of seventy-five years. Mr Dalziel, who was one of tho early colonists, was born in. Ayrshire, Scotland, in JB3l. He learned the trade of a stonemason, and came out. to Adelaide in 1562. In Australia ho was employed in building for tho late Hon. v. Robinson, with whom he came to New Zealand tax 1860, and settled at Cheviot Hills, which had been purchased by Mr Robinson. Four years later Mr Dalziel removed; to Fennside, where he farmed for nine years. In 1800 he Bottled at "BramricaJi," and remained there till 1880, ■afterwards going to live with his eldest son at Amberley. Mr Dalsdol was married in 18-52 to a daughter of tho lato Mj J. Boyd, of Fenwiok, Ayrshire, and Mrs Dalziel died in 1897, leaving six bohs, six daughters, and thirty-eight grandcMLdren. (rKESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) HOKITIKA, August 10. News has been received of the death of Mr W. M. Purkiss, formerly Crown Prosecntor here, who died at Perth (W.A.) on Wednesday. Mr Purkiss for come time held a seat in the West Australian Parliament. Mr Stephen Moulder, for many yeans connected with the New Zealand Railway Department, died at Auckland a few days ago, aged 82. He was one of the leaders of the procession which presented the celebrated petition to the Houso of Commons during the Chartist riots in 1839. For twenty-eicht years he had been a prominent Oddfellow in Auckland.
